There’s a longing among many donors to sense relationship with your ministry. A small number, of course, will prefer anonymity; but this is not typical. Many donors compare their relationship with a ministry to other relationships in their lives: it’s like “family — they are part of the family … an extension of my immediate family.” Or “it’s like [the relationship I have with] my children.” Or “it’s like a friendship” or “a partnership.” One participant likened the relationship with her favorite ministry to that of a “co-worker, one with the same company but in a very different department and a very different job description than mine.” Build that relationship, and you’ll strengthen the bond with your donors.
